This used Smooth Thin Matting stamp set was made by Craftool Company in the 1960s. The stamps are numbers 7024 and 7036. This tempered tool steel stamp set was designed to produce a hand engraved look on both leather and metal. This Matting stamp set is a great example of why many serious leather stampers prefer these vintage tools. The tools measure around 1/4" in length. There is some corrosion on these stamps. These old tools do not come available very often, so don't miss your chance to add a great tool set to your collection. It still has many miles left in it.

Not all of the carving and stamping techniques that evolved in the 50's and 60's became as popular as western style leather carving. One of the ventures of Craftool Co. was the creation of metal engraving stamps. The tools made for this were very crisp and sharp, but the craft never caught on. Because of that, these tools were only produced for a very short while and are very hard to find. They even produced a few Doodle Pages showing how to use these tools on leather.
