A very scarce re-issue of James Peirce's work on the evils of instruments in divine worship, aimed directly from the divines of London to those in Boston. Prefaced to Rev. Charles Chauncy and RevJohn Clarke, both pastors in 18th century Boston, it was intended to dissuade them from their attempts to install organs and thus "pollute" the worship of God.
Peirce, James. A Tractate on Church Music; Being an Extract from the Reverend and Learned Mr. Peirce's Vindication of the Dissenters. London. 1786. 29pp.
A very good copy, bound in wraps, generally solid, with generally bright pages, light foxing, and minor chips to the title. Removed from a larger sammelband at some point, with attendant flotsam on spine.
