I don't know sh!t about Cate Le Bon. Actually, I do know two things. She toured Melbourne recently - and is not related to the Duran Duran vocalist.
Me Oh My is an assured debut but far from being a showy effort, its focus is simple but sharp. Recalling Kendra Aurelia Smith style vocals, deep and almost detached and also recalling the garage strewn psychedelia of Opal, the songs are creepy, almost funny and sometimes haunting as in the case of the drop dead gorgeous but lowkey closer, "Out To Sea".
It's an album that never dips its toes to obvious sentimentality which makes Cate all the more impressive for her devotion to deadpan. With melodies and songs that never outstay their welcome, this is a debut album that makes enough of a mark to leave one waiting for the next showcase.
